Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on our school website.
Applications for out-of-zone places are now being invited for those students who will become eligible for enrolment during the period of Term 3 and Term 4. The Board of Trustees has determined the following approximate number of out-of-zone places remaining in particular levels within the school.
- Year 1 = 20
- Year 2/3 = 15
- Year 4/5 = 12
- Year 6 = 3
The deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is 9 July 2021.
If a ballot for out-of-zone places is required, it will be held on 12 July 2021. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
If you live in the home zone and have not yet signalled your intention to enrol your child later this year, please contact the school immediately to assist us to plan appropriately. Email: office@sunnybrae.school.nz or https://www.sunnybrae.school.nz/enrolment/

4. Teacher Only Days 2021
|
Teacher Only Days
As previously advised, all schools have been allocated eight additional Teacher Only Days between 2020 and 2022 through the Accord signed in 2019. Our next Teacher Only Days will be on the following dates:
Friday 1 October – Term 3, Week 10
Monday 15 November – Term 4, Week 5
|
5. PTA Math-a-thon 2021 Fundraiser
|
This week the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is launching a Math-a-thon to raise money for a permanent shade structure at the back of our school hall. All children have been given a Math-a-thon pack today. If your child did not receive one, please check with your child’s classroom teacher.
The children will be asked to work out the answers to 10 or 20 questions from Lists 1 – 11 depending on their current maths stage. They will practise the strategies they have been learning at school to work them out and spend some of their mathematics programme doing this. They will then be asked to practise at home. Testing day will be on Friday 2 July.
Those children whose parents/caregivers are agreeable will be asked to seek sponsors to support the fundraising.
For every six sponsors collected, your child will receive a small “thank you prize”. These will be given out on Fridays in weeks 7, 8 and 9 of Term 2. Everyone who gets over 10 sponsors and brings in their sponsorship money will go in a draw for a major prize. There will be a big prize for the person in each syndicate who has been the most successful at raising sponsorship.
This is a good way to encourage the children to improve their mathematics while at the same time giving them a chance to actively assist the school in our fundraising venture.
We hope you will be able to give it your full support.

6. The Resilience Project Parent Hub
|
Resilience and Wellbeing are key factors to ensure a happy and fulfilling future for our young people. In 2021 Sunnybrae Normal School staff are proud to be leading students through ‘The Resilience Project’. This evidence-based positive mental health programme builds resilience and happiness, focusing on three main strategies: Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. We highly recommend all parents/caregivers view the following videos and information on the link below:
The Resilience Project Parent Carer Hub.
This hub provides you with information about The Resilience Project and it has video presentations for you to view. Students will be watching similar videos tailored to their year level and will be completing wellbeing lessons in their classrooms.
