Each child has been given a set of maths facts to learn and a sponsorship form. We would appreciate parents/caregivers supporting our Math-a-thon in the following ways:

7. PTA Fundraising Initiative – Are you able to support us?
|
In Term 3, our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is running an exciting fundraising initiative – The Sunnybrae Normal School PTA Raffle 2021 – 20 days of prizes! All money raised will go towards a permanent shade structure to be built at the back of the school hall facing towards the fields.
We will have fantastic prizes all set out in calendar format, one prize per day for 20 days. You buy a ticket, enter the draw and every day a new prize is drawn. If you win a prize and the calendar hasn’t finished, you get placed back into the draw for another chance to win something else!
How can you help?
We are currently looking for people to contribute $50 vouchers for our raffle. For example, you might like to purchase a $50 voucher from a store of your choice and donate it to our raffle. If you would like to gift a voucher to Sunnybrae Normal School please contact our Deputy Principal Karen Rodger – krodger@sunnybrae.school.nz or drop a voucher at the office. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

8. The Resilience Project: Gratitude
|
The Resilience Project: Gratitude.
Today The Resilience Project will focus on Gratitude.
Gratitude is being thankful and expressing appreciation for what one has – as opposed to focusing on the lack of something.
Research shows that practising gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world that we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

There are many ways in which you can practise gratitude, including starting a Wellbeing Journal. In the image below are a few ideas to get started.

9. Artist in the Classroom
|
In Room 10 this week, we have been so lucky to have the talented Tallulah Nunez teaching multimedia painting and drawing. Talullah has exhibited throughout New Zealand and is represented by Art by the Sea Gallery in Takapuna and Muse Gallery, Havelock North. She has been a finalist in many Art Awards including the prestigious Parkin Drawing Award and Miles Art Award. We have enjoyed exploring how to communicate our ideas through abstract art and can’t wait to exhibit this work at this year’s Sunnybrae Art Celebration.
Tallulah’s solo exhibition at Art by the Sea Gallery opens on 17th of July at 4:00 pm and runs for 3 weeks. The exhibition is open to the public, family and friends of Sunnybrae.

11. Year 5/6 Cluster Sports Day
|
Last week many of our Year 5 and 6 students took part in the local Cluster Sports Day against teams from Willow Park, Northcote and St Mary’s. This is an annual event and the sports we played this year were Soccer, Rippa Rugby, Netball and Table Tennis. We were very lucky with the weather which was superb on the day. Many students played sports they had not tried before and all of them had a fun-filled day. Some of their thoughts have been shared below.
Gina R19: Today we went to our Cluster Sports and I played table tennis! ‘WHOOSH’ went the ball and before I knew it, I’d already beaten 4 teams! Table tennis reminds me of badminton with a smaller ball and bat. While eating lunch, the coach called my team and we were in the semi-finals! Even though we placed 4th, Sunnybrae placed 2nd overall with 71 points total and I had a heap of fun!
Ayla R19: We had Cluster Sports today and it was so much fun! I played 4 soccer games in total. I’m happy it didn’t rain and that it was a nice, sunny day. I was on Team United with 8 other people. We won 2 games and I got so sweaty afterwards. It was really, really fun and I enjoyed it a lot.
Sophia R19: Today we went to a netball court and I was really excited to see who we were going to play against. We went there because it was Cluster Sports Day. Cluster Sports is where you can choose from the following sports: rippa, netball, soccer and table tennis. We were all separated into groups and played against different schools. I felt competitive and I tried hard to win for my team. Now I feel like netball is my favourite sport!
Hiroto R19: I did table tennis at Cluster Sports and it was so much fun! I was with Felix and Winnie from Room 20. I was called for the semi-finals and my team won! I was in the finals and I got destroyed by a person called Angel. She was so good but Felix won the next round. Winnie won the last point by default because the opponent messed up and my team won overall!!! I was sooo happy then I was awarded with a certificate and chocolate. My team got a round of applause before we went back to school.
Ximon R19: This week a group of Sunnybrae kids went to play rippa rugby for Cluster Sports day. Three other schools came as well and each team played 4 games that lasted 18 minutes. Sunnybrae had 2 teams and both teams actually won two games each. We barely ate anything when we were there but we drank all our water! We all enjoyed ourselves, had a great time and sang all the way back to school.
Lewis R19: Today we all went to the Cluster Sports and I chose to play rippa rugby. Rippa rugby was in a muddy field and there were lots of teams from other schools. Sunnybrae had 2 teams, the Kiwis and the Pukekos. I was in the Kiwis with 7 other people. We each had 4 games to play and we had to walk 25 minutes to get there! I got very muddy and everyone got really tired. It was so much fun and exciting to play and watch.
Oscar R19: Soccer was so much fun. I was in a team and it was called United. Our first game was against Sunnybrae City and we won by 7 but we were all good sports. The last game we played was a team from Willow Park and they were all very nice.
