Kia ora te whānau,
Re: Building Works at Sunnybrae Normal School
Firstly, we write this letter in what is another extended period of Lockdown. We are all aware of the numerous challenges that this can bring, and please know that we, as a Board of Trustees, both sympathise and empathise. Dora and I are both parents of school-age children, and between executing our own jobs and keeping our tamariki on task, we are aware of what the challenges might be for other whānau.
Dora and I, on behalf of the Sunnybrae Board of Trustees, write to you, our Sunnybrae Community, to provide an overview of the construction taking place at the school that will benefit both our tamariki and community.
In partnership with the Ministry of Education, our construction project is currently underway. This was to be a long term project of approximately one year, but due to Covid, may be extended. This work includes maintenance, upgrades as well as renovations to the following: roofing, electrical, Room 8 Classroom and Toilets, Room 12 Toilets, Hall Kitchen, Office, Resource Room, Staffroom and front gate.
We are also pleased to inform you of a separate project that the Board of Trustees and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) are bringing to fruition. This exciting project is the construction of a Covered Turf on the backfield near the Year 2/3 classrooms. This area will provide shade, a dry play area during wet weather, an outdoor teaching space, a sports training area, and a gathering space for special school events. Thank you to our parents and wider school community whose support of fundraising events and activities over the past few years helped to make this possible.
If you would like further information about the Covered Turf project, recently completed areas or those projects that are next on the list once we move to Alert Level 3, then please contact either myself or Dora.
Finally, if you do need help or advice, do reach out to friends or loved ones, or if needed to us; we’d be happy to help in any, small or large, way.
Go well; stay safe; keep connected.
Kia kaha, te whānau,
