1. Welcome to Sunnybrae

This week we would like to welcome the following new students and their families to our school community: Rosie Monaghan (R4), Priscilla Yang (R5), Levi Kingi (R7) and CJ Kingi (R13). 

2. Farewell to Mr Pretorius

Today we farewell our Property Manager, Mike Pretorius. Mr Mike (as the children call him) has looked after our school buildings, grounds and pool since 2018. We wish him all the best at his new school. 

We are currently advertising to fill the position. Please refer to our advert in the Community Notices below if you know anyone who would be suitable for the job.

3. Parent/Teacher Conferences 2022

Wednesday 23 February from 1:20 pm – 7:00 pm

Thursday 24 February from 3:20 pm – 5:00 pm

 

You are invited to a Parent/Teacher conference to meet with your child’s teacher for 10 minutes on Wednesday 23 February or Thursday 24 February.

 

Held in Person – Parents Only

Conferences will be held in person in each classroom but socially distanced and with masks.

 

School Closure on Wed 23 Feb 12:30 pm

School will close and the children will all go home at 12:30 pm on Wednesday 23 February.

 

After School Care Programme

YMCA provides After School Care in the School Hall. You may make prior arrangements directly with the YMCA if you would like to enrol your child from 12:30 – 3:00 pm on Wednesday 23 February. See below for enrolment details.

 

Translators

If you need a translator, contact the office directly as soon as possible to make your request.  Please give us as much notice as possible to make the necessary arrangements.

4. Contact Details – Keep us updated

We have recently transitioned to a new student database called Hero. Please let us know if your contact details (address, phone numbers, emails) and/or medical information we hold about your child may need to be updated. Please email any amendments to: office@sunnybrae.school.nz

5. Swimming Lessons

Our students are absolutely loving their swimming lessons this year. Instructional Swimming lessons begin on Wednesday 16 February for the following classes:

        – All Year 4/5 classes (Rooms 13, 15, 16, 17)

        – The following Year 1 classes (Rooms 3, 4, 5)

Please send your children with named togs, a towel and a school jersey each day.

6. Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 Basketball

The YMCA will begin their basketball competition on Thursday March 17 for Years 3 – 6 students. Letters have been distributed to all students who have indicated they would like to play for Sunnybrae in Semester 1 (Terms 1 & 2) and they are due back on Wednesday February 16. 

Sports teams are only able to operate with the support of parents. If you are able to coach or manage a team, we would really appreciate your help and please do not feel you need to be an expert. Previously, parents who have taken on these roles have found them to be very rewarding.

When the teams are sorted and registered, you will be invoiced for fees and they will need to be received before the semester begins.

Sunnybrae Property Manager/Caretaker Wanted

Full Time

We need a self-motivated caretaker with initiative, talent and energy to keep our school looking amazing. Sunnybrae Normal School is a beautiful place in the heart of a thriving, engaged community. 

 

If you want to make a difference, take pride in your work and thrive on a challenge in a fun and supportive community, then this is the job for you. Key responsibilities include general maintenance of school property, Health and Safety checks, grounds work, organising small projects, as well as liaising with trades people and staff. Willingness to complete swimming pool maintenance is required. The ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders is necessary.

 

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. The successful candidate will be fully vaccinated and police vetted.
