Next week our lessons will focus on using cooperation everywhere.

Our lessons will focus on:

  • Helping others

2. Monday’s Rain

Last Monday was a day of torrential rain, rumbles of thunder, wet socks and frizzy hair. Once the morning’s deluge ended, it was time for an outside cleanup. Thank you to staff members and Year 6 students for your commitment to ensuring the grounds were cared for and safe for use.

3. Netball

Junior Netties

We are seeking  ‘Expressions of Interest’ for students, male or female, to compete in the Junior Netties competition. If your son or daughter is  keen and they can commit to one practice session during the week and play on Saturday morning, as shown below relating to the year group, please have them see Ms Snellaert for a permission slip. Slips will need to be signed and returned at the latest, Tuesday 29th March. Thank you to those students who have expressed an interest and returned their signed slips.)

Year 4, 5 and 6 Junior Netties

The competition begins Saturday 7th May (Term 2) until Saturday 20th August (Term 3). This works out to be 12 weeks, that encompasses 8 grading games and 4 competition games.

Year 4’s play on Saturdays at Westlake Girls High School at 8.30am and 9.20am.

Year 5’s play on Saturdays at Westlake GIrls High School at 9.20am, 10.10am and  11.00 am.

Year 6’s play on Saturdays at Westlake Girls High School at 10.10am, 11.00am and 12.10pm.

To enable teams to compete, we rely heavily on parent assistance. Therefore each team requires a coach (to conduct a weekly practice) and a manager (to update and communicate to parents). We are unable to enter teams without parent support.

If you have any questions regarding this please email Sheryle Snellaert ssnellaert@sunnybrae.school.nz

4. Basketball

Wahoo! It’s excellent to see the return of sports. This week was the start of basketball at the YMCA. Here is one highlight from players Henri and Elliot.

This week it was our first basketball game of Term 1 at YMCA. It was the Sunnybrae Rockets vs Vauxhall Nets. Elliot did the jump ball but the other team got the ball first. They ran down the line and Henri chased after them. When he was just about to get the ball, the other team shot and missed, but they got the rebound. We blocked their next shot.)  We did get a three pointer though, but they don`t count them at YMCA, so we basically tied. Ronal was given player of the day and got some nice candy.  It was really fun playing basketball again (finally!).
