9. Matariki and Our New School Karakia
|
As a school, we celebrated Matariki last week with the focus on Whanaungatanga – Building Relationships. Our curriculum for the week was based around Matariki, including maths, reading, writing and poetry. In the afternoons, each class moved around to different teachers to participate in a range of activities including art, games, gardening and more.
As part of our celebrations, we also held special assemblies run by our Student Council for the students at the beginning and end of the week, including a performance from our Senior Kapa Haka.
At the assembly at the end of the week the Student Council also introduced our new Sunnybrae Karakia Whakamutunga (Karakia for the end of the day.) A big ‘Kia Ora’ to our Māori community, especially Kelly Watts, for helping us to create this special karakia.

11. Semester One Basketball ended this week
|
Last night a prizegiving took place at the YMCA for all seven SNS basketball teams. The first semester has come to an end and we are so proud of all the players who have shown improved skills, awesome teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the season.
Big congratulations to the Year 6 Stormers for winning the overall Sportsmanship Cup and the Year 4 Hawks as winners of their grade. All the other teams should also be commended for finishing in the minor places. Everyone is keen to keep playing next semester which clearly indicates how committed they all are and how much they enjoy playing basketball.
Once again we would like to extend a huge thank you to the coaches and managers who invest so much care and time into our sports teams. You are all amazing at what you do and are a vital part in our school being able to offer these sporting opportunities.
On Thursday 30th June, we had prize giving for the Rockets Basketball team at the YMCA.
It was so awesome because we were waiting for a pretty long time until we got called up to the front. We were very scared because all the kids and adults were looking at us.
But then we were happy because the coaches took one big trophy from the table and gave it to us. We got the trophy because my team came 1st in our grade!! We were all really proud!
Our team is Deacon, Henri, Maxim, Zoe, Ronal, Zack and myself.
Also one big thanks to our Coach Rachel Crooks!!!!!
