This week our wellbeing tip focuses on connecting to nature. One of the best things to do to lift our mood is to have fun outdoors. You might like to explore the following with your child during the school holidays.
- Take a Moment to Read in Nature – Head outside to a cosy spot and spend time reading.
- Take a Moment to Notice Nature – Head outside and do some movements that make you more aware of your surroundings.
- Take a Moment to Discover Nature – Head outside on a fun scavenger hunt. The items to find are located here.
- Take a Moment to Create in Nature – Head outside with a pencil or art supplies and draw or paint what you see.
- Take a Moment to Listen in Nature – Head outside to focus on hearing the experience of outside.

The Learner Qualities at Sunnybrae and at Home On June 17, we held a special parent evening entitled, ‘We Are Sunnybrae.’ This was an opportunity to share important aspects of our local curriculum including Wellbeing, Learner Qualities, Community Engagement and Positive Behaviour for Learning. There are many benefits to sharing similar messages about learning and life in both the home and school setting. Using the same language can make this even more effective. Through Seesaw we are sending home a poster of our Learner Qualities, shown below, to support our home/school partnership. You might like to print this out and have it on the fridge or a display board, and refer to it in discussion with your family/whānau. There are also a limited number of coloured A4 posters printed at the office for those who might like to have a copy. This is one several resources that we are sharing with you.

Cross Country Zone Day Last Thursday, 36 Year 4 to 6 students represented Sunnybrae Normal School at our Zone Cross Country. The course went over fields and up and down muddy hills! We were super proud of all the participants as they ran their best and everyone completed their respective course. Congratulations to Isla in Room 19, for coming first place in Year 6 Girls and Joel in Room 18 for coming a very close fourth in the Year 6 Boys. A huge thank you to the wonderful parents who helped supervise our groups or turned up to support their children during the races.

Netball Congratulations to all our winter netball players. They have improved immensely in their ball skills, using court space and developed more team cohesion. Some of our teams will be signing up for Spring League, which will commence at the end of October. Particular congratulations goes to our Year 4 team as ‘runner ups’ in their division – well done girls and thank you to our coach Jo Cameron and manager Jessica Gatman. A big thank you to all our coaches and managers of our netball teams – without your help, we are unable to put teams forward. Your hard work is duly noted and appreciated.

Seesaw Parent Update Seesaw is now available as one mobile app for iOS or Android devices for teachers, students, and family. There are no longer two separate Seesaw Class and Seesaw Family apps. This single app allows teachers, students, and families to switch easily between active users. If you have an earlier version of the Seesaw Family app (before 8.0.0) you will need to download the new Seesaw app to take advantage of the new experience. you can access multiple accounts or roles on the same device. This means that when multiple people share a device or when people have more than one Seesaw role, they can easily switch between different accounts without having to sign in and out. We hope this makes the Seesaw easier to use.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES: Fire Drill On Wednesday 14 September at 12:00 pm, Sunnybrae Normal School ran a Fire Drill. All students were prepared for the drill by their classroom teacher. Once the fire bell rang students and their teachers made their way to their Emergency Assembly point. The Junior classrooms (1-7) assembly in the playground area in front of their classrooms and the remaining classrooms (8-20) assembled on the top field. Once class numbers were confirmed and time taken for the drill was recorded, the teachers were given the signal to return to their classrooms. Once back in the classroom teachers completed a debrief with their class about the Fire Drill.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE
Thanks to everyone for supporting yesterdays Sausage Sizzle. It was our first one for the year and a big thanks goes to Dora Yang and her helpers for organising this event. We made a grand profit of $670 which has gone towards helping fund fabulous new netball uniforms for our Sunnybrae 4, 5 & 6 teams. We look forward to seeing them worn on the courts next season with pride.
