Welcome to our New Entrants!
We would like to welcome our new entrants to Sunnybrae. Ms Wendy Frazer opened the doors to Room 2 this term. Our lovely, new students are learning all about what it is to be part of the Sunnybrae family. They even had Sunnybee visit them on their first day. It has been wonderful to see our new entrants playing on the playground, engaging in new learning experiences and participating in Kapa Haka sessions.

The Year 1’s have green fingers. The Year 1’s are starting a new Unit of Inquiry in a few weeks time. We will be exploring ‘Our World- Living Things Change and Grow’. We wanted to document the process of living things growing and changing over time and decided to plant sunflower seeds and beans. The students enjoyed being gardeners, using gardening gloves and trowels to plant the sunflower seeds in little pots.
The first few seedlings sprouted after a few days and the excitement was tangible. They have now also seen the roots forming and experienced first-hand what is needed for a plant to grow. We cannot wait to send them home to be replanted and enjoyed by our Year 1 families.

Lockdown Drill As part of the ongoing training and review of our Emergency Procedures, Sunnybrae held a Lockdown Drill on Wednesday 8 November at 1:10 pm. Prior to the drill, teachers reviewed with their students what they should do if they hear the ‘lockdown’ announcement. During lunchtime, when students were outside, the lockdown announcement was made and students made their way to the nearest classroom. Staff were impressed with how quickly and sensibly students made their way to the nearest classroom and how the outdoor areas were cleared. Later once the ‘all clear’ announcement was made students promptly made their way to their Emergency Assembly Area to meet up with their teacher and classmates for attendance. The drill was completed by 1:30 pm. Following the lockdown teachers reviewed the drill with their class and noted their feedback.

REMINDERS: Cutlery in Lunchboxes There has been an increase in students asking for cutlery at lunchtime to eat their lunch. If you are packing food that requires utensils, please ensure you have included a fork or spoon in your child’s lunchbox. Please remember to pack some healthy fruit or vegetable options for your child to have at Brain Break time. It is great to have fruit/veggies for morning tea and/or lunch as well. Northgrove Avenue In order to keep all students safe, it is important that when dropping off or picking up your child, you park the car alongside the footpath and that your child then gets out or into the car from the footpath. We would appreciate your help with this to keep all of our students safe.
