A Lot of Fun in the Year 2 Classrooms

Room 11 In Room 11, we are learning about position and orientation. We had to cut out the instructions and the images, and paste them onto cardboard. We divided up the responsibilities for each team. Then we played the game, making sure we used the key, our knowledge of left and right and looked at the street names. We had to look at the map from the same position.
I like the buildings on the map. It is hard to play because you have to face the right way to know where to put things. Don
I like looking for where to put the ice cream truck. Reevie
I like putting the football on the field. Youen
The cards tell you what to put where to put things. We need to know what is left and right. Cruz
We know our left and right. We are learning to read tricky words like the street names and the word ‘position’. Red group (Euphemia, Vega, Madeleine and Amelia)

Room 8 How fun would it be if you got to draw on the school grounds with colourful chalk and never have to worry about cleaning up afterwards? Well, our Sunnybrae Room 8 children can share their experiences with you! During this month’s Aotearoa Play Week, with the theme, “Play is everywhere!”, we’ve been sent some large chalk to be used outside by Sport New Zealand.

Here are a few examples of senses poems we wrote afterwards.
I saw beautiful drawings and writings on the concrete next to Room 8. I heard the children making excited noises and sharing ideas about what they were drawing. I felt inspired because my partner had some amazing ideas about how to draw a T-Rex that survived the volcano eruption. By Jeddah
I saw happy children drawing with bright rainbow-coloured chalk next to the school pool. My partner’s drawing of a unicorn rabbit looked similar to mine. I heard the children laughing because their drawing was a little funny. I felt happy drawing with the chalk on the concrete ground next to Room 8. By Koloa
I saw my classmates drawing with colourful chalk on the ground next to Room 8. I heard my classmates laughing, getting ideas from each other and talking about what to draw. I had so much fun drawing next to R8 with the colourful chalk. By Mia Lee
I saw my friend Mia drawing a pink heart with chalk on the ground in the shade. I heard my friends talking about how much fun we were having by drawing with chalk on the ground. I felt happy because drawing Miss Kwon with the blue chalk was fun. By Briony
Room 12 Room 12 has been anticipating and looking forward to the Huff ‘n Puff since the start of Term 4. Practising running the course had become part of our daily routine, ensuring we were well-prepared for the big day. When the day finally arrived, we were ready and raring to go. It was such a fun afternoon watching all our friends take part as we cheered the other classes on. We had a class discussion and did some brainstorming. We spoke all about what we saw, how we felt and what we heard. Definitely a memorable afternoon.
