Parent Teacher Conferences & Goal Setting We are holding our Sunnybrae Parent Teacher Conferences and Goal Setting on Wednesday 28 February from 1:20 – 7:00 pm and Thursday 29 February 3:20 – 6:00 pm. Early Pick Up on Wednesday 28 Feb at 12:30 pm.
We hope that all families will attend these meetings so that you can share your insights on how we can best support your child. Teachers are interested in learning about what success looks like for your child, what supports their learning, and any potential barriers to the learning process. Teachers will share how your child has settled into their new class and routines. Parents and teachers will collaboratively set learning goals for your child for the coming term.
Please note that children will need to be picked up at 12:30 pm on Wednesday the 28 February. Click here if you need after-school care with the YMCA
Bookings on Hero Please book an appointment with your child’s teacher. You will be able to book a 10-minute interview. If you have more than one child, you cannot book back-to-back interviews. This is to allow time for you to move from one class to the next and to ensure that the schedule stays on track.
Bookings are now open for both evenings and can be made electronically through the Hero app. If you need support to make a booking on the Hero app, please email your child’s teacher.
If you need language support, please add a note in the comment to the teacher section when booking so we can arrange a translator.

SPOTLIGHT ON YEAR 1 & 2: Great start to the Year The Year 1 / Year 2 team had a fabulous start to the year.
So far, One of the highlights has been participating in lessons and swimming each day. This always brings a lot of joy and laughter, and it has been great to see the children learning new skills and using excellence by always trying their best.
Our unit of inquiry for Term 1 is a unit on Learning and Growing. The children are learning about being part of a class, school and wider community.
They listened to the story ‘Little Kiwi and the Treaty’ and discussed our school values of R.I.C.E (Respect, Independence, Cooperation and Excellence) and how to use these values in the classroom. Class treaties and expectations matrices were then created.
Identifying their own strengths and growing friendships by building trust and showing empathy will be explored throughout this unit.

Emergency Procedures: Fire Drill As part of our ongoing monitoring of our Emergency Procedures, we had a Fire Drill in the afternoon of Thursday 22 February. The fire bell was rung, and children lined up outside in their respective areas where a roll count was taken. The Senior Leadership Team walked around the school, checking that students and staff were outside the buildings. These drills also test our indoor and outdoor speakers, ensuring emergency announcements can be heard. This drill took just under 10 minutes to complete. Following the drill and the ‘all clear’, an announcement was made, and then our teachers completed a debrief document with their class.

Lunch Boxes There has been an increase in students asking for cutlery at lunchtime to eat their lunch. If you are packing food that requires utensils, please ensure you have included a fork or spoon in your child’s lunchbox. It might be a good idea to send extra utensils in a bag that can be stored in your child’s tote tray.
Please remember to pack some healthy fruit or vegetable options for your child to have at Brain Break time. It is great to have fruit/veggies for morning tea and/or lunch as well.

Student Contact Details Update It is very important that all our contact details for parents and caregivers are current and accurate so that we can contact you in the event of an emergency. Please let the office know, either by calling 09 443 5058 or emailing office@sunnybrae.school.nz if you have moved house or changed mobile numbers or email addresses. Thank you for your cooperation with this important matter.
