The PB4L focus for next week will be on:
Respect: Everywhere – Using kind words.

Bus Travel
Free travel for 5 to 12 year olds and half-price travel for 13 to 24 year olds on AT bus, train and ferry services will end on 30 April 2024, in line with the government’s decision to withdraw funding for these concessions.

This means that from Wednesday 1 May

5 to 12 year olds will no longer travel for free on weekdays and will instead pay a child concession (at least 40% off adult fares). They will continue to travel for free on weekends. The child concession will apply to anyone aged 5 to 15, who has a registered AT HOP card with their correct date of birth.

13 to 15 year olds will stop receiving the half-price child fares discount and instead switch to paying full child fares (at least 40% off an adult fare during weekdays, and free travel on weekends) from 1 May. The child concession will apply to anyone aged 5 to 15, who has a registered AT HOP card with their correct date of birth.

16 to 19 year olds with a secondary student concession will stop receiving the half-price secondary fares discount and instead switch to paying full secondary fares (at least 40% off an adult fare). Students aged 16-19 should apply for the secondary student concession to ensure they are paying the cheapest fare possible.

More information about the discounts and what you may need to do next can be found at AT.govt.nz/farechanges

Congratulations
Well done to Mischa, Room 11 and Polina, Room 12 — who are the big bunny prize winners in the Nikki Duke Harcourts colouring in competition. Thank you to all the children who sent in their beautiful art work. Choosing was really hard.

Naming all items that come to school
During Term 1 there has been a large amount of school sweatshirts and hats being handed into the Office as Lost Property on a daily basis.  The items that are clearly named are returned to the students classroom. There are still many items not named or named with past student names making it impossible for the Office to find the rightful owner.

Over the next few weeks, please take the time to name every item of clothing, hats, shoes, lunch boxes and drink bottles that come to school. There are numerous online companies that specialise in iron-on or stick-on labelling. Check out these options:
https://www.stuckonyou.com/au/school-essentials-label-pack
https://www.nameit.co.nz/shoe-labels/
https://www.preciouslabels.co.nz/

Clothing labels should be named with full name at the nape of the neck, shoes on the insole and hats on the inner brim. Please do not use symbols or initials or put the name label in an obscure place.   Entire first name with first initial of surname is acceptable.

This is also a good time to encourage your child to take responsibility for their personal belongings. Remind them that before heading out to run around at morning tea and lunch – to take off their sweatshirt and leave it in the classroom. If they prefer to play in bare feet – leave their shoes in the cloak bay by their bag. Hats are worn on heads at morning tea and lunch – not used as play items that are thrown around and left on the ground.

From Term 2, any item of clothing/shoes that are not clearly labelled with a child’s name will be added to our Donated Uniform selection at the end of every week.  Only parents/caregivers can access the Donated Uniform Room during school hours – please ask the office for the key.

Second-Hand Uniforms Needed
If you have any spare uniforms that your child may have grown out of, please consider donating these back to the school for our Donated Uniform Store.  Clean items can be dropped off at the office.

Outstanding Fees
As we head toward the end of the term, we thought it timely to remind all parents / caregivers about the importance of payment for sports-related fees.
Your support and prompt payment of these fees are greatly appreciated, as it ensures that we can continue to provide sporting opportunities for your child. We encourage you to log into your Kindo account or call the office if you are unsure of your balance and aim to settle all outstanding fees before the end of the term.
While we encourage you to settle accounts via Kindo, other payment options are:
· Cash or EFTPOS at the School Office
· Internet banking to account number ASB 12 3053 0370789 00 referencing your child’s name and room.

We thank you again for your continued support and co-operation.

PTA UPDATE:
PTA Meeting

The Sunnybrae Normal School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) are currently seeking parents willing to help at future school fundraising events. This is an opportunity to meet parents already involved with fundraising for the school, and how you can volunteer to help the Sunnybrae community and its students.

> Come and find out how your children already benefit from the PTA.
> No commitment to attend all meetings.
> Be a friend of the PTA and help only when you are free.
> Provide us with feedback.
> Share new ideas for fundraising.

Next meeting Thursday 11 April at 7:00 pm in the Staffroom.

Kind regards
Lorene Hurd,
Principal
SUNNYBRAE NORMAL SCHOOL

REMINDER:
Please note that all children are to be collected from school by 3.00 pm. If you are unable to collect before this time, you may be interested in booking your child into the YMCA after-school club held in the School Hall.
