Spotlight on Year 1 and 2 This term our Year 1 & 2 team has been participating in a modified PmP programme (Perceptual Motor Program). This is a fun and interactive 30 minute weekly fitness program that helps build their balance, coordination, memory and gross motor skills. Our activities have included skipping ropes, rakau sticks, following the leader, scooter boards, egg and spoon, dizzy giddy spinners, balancing beams, throwing and catching a small ball and obstacle courses. Each of these activities help young tamariki (children) build their gross motor skills. These are important skills to have as they help us complete everyday activities such as playing on the playground, kicking the ball, walking, running and more. Check out below what our students say about our fitness programme.

Parent Teacher Conferences & Goal Setting A big thanks to all our families that have made their booking on Hero for the Parent Teacher Conferences. A reminder for those that haven’t made a booking, the conference dates are Wednesday 26th June from 1.30pm – 6.40pm and Thursday 27th June from 3.30pm – 5.30pm. For these conferences, students are encouraged to come along. We believe it is important for the children to be part of these conversations, so they can reflect on their strengths, achievements and take ownership of their learning goals in the coming term. We hope that all of our Sunnybrae families and whanau will value this time to build home-school connections. Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you are having issues booking a timeslot.

Jammies for June Charity Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who supported our charity fundraiser today. It was wonderful to see so many of our students dressed in their favorite pyjamas – it made for a very exciting day. With your generosity, we raised $594, which will be donated to the Middlemore Foundation. Thank you to all the families who sent in pyjamas; these will also be given to the Middlemore Foundation to help keep sick children warm this winter.

Lockdown Drill As part of our ongoing monitoring of our Emergency Procedures we had an indoor lockdown drill on the morning of Tuesday 18 June.
After the lockdown announcement was made, staff ensured all students were safe and quiet in their classrooms. At the end of the drill members of our Senior Leadership Team walked around the school releasing classes. These drills also test our indoor and outdoor speakers ensuring emergency announcements can be heard. Following the drills and the ‘all clear’ announcement was made, teachers completed a debrief document with their class.
In a genuine incident, should you become aware of a lockdown or evacuation at the school, can we please ask that you do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be able to respond. Your presence or contact may make it more difficult for us or the emergency services to manage a situation.
