Northcote Intermediate Showcase On Tuesday the Year 6 students visited Northcote Intermediate to watch their showcase. It was fabulous to see all of the creative initiatives that the students at Northcote Intermediate may choose to get involved in. It was wonderful to see some of our ex-Sunnybrae students perform. The Showcase included kapa haka, contemporary dance, rock band, choir, and orchestra. We had a great time.

SPOTLIGHT: YEAR 5 & 6 Celebrating the Olympics Room 20 has been keenly interested in the Olympics and linked it with our writing, Olympic Sense Poems and art, where we created Olympic Bobbleheads.
If I were an Olympic Fencer If I was an Olympic Fencer, I’d feel so free. Winning all the rounds, one by one. Chasing my dreams to the very end. I’d feel the hard hit on my fencing sword, keeping my balance all the way. I’d hear the crowd, cheering the whole time, as the swords bang and crash together. I’d see the opponents precise movements, hitting me as accurately as they could. I’d smell the air between us, being cautious with our every move. I’d taste the joy as it was announced I was the winner. Tasting victory the whole time. If I were an Olympic Fencer, proud and brave, with my equipment and my ability, there’s nothing I couldn’t do. By Aglaia – Room 20.
If I was an Olympic Equestrian Athlete If I was an Equestrian Athlete, riding fast and free, thundering toward the finish line as I ride with my head held high. I’d feel my steed gallop along the track, encouraging him on, his legs moving like pistons, propelling himself forward and safely clearing the jumps. I’d hear the roar of the crowd, cheering me on. Individuals urge me on as I proceeded down the course. I’d see the final jump with time counting down. As we near it with us at the helm we win first place, screams of pure happiness ringing all around us. I’d smell the unmistakable scent of the horses, a musty aroma like hay in the spring. I’d smell the anxiety also,of all the athletes striving to represent their nation. I’d taste the victory as we parade around the ring. Holding up each medal with delight. If I was an Olympic rider, I’d ride with pride and joy, hoping one day, I’ll be first place. By Annika Xu – Rm 20

Room 19 has used art to summarise the Olympics and imagined what the mascot might look like if we had the Games here in Aotearoa.
|
|
In Room 17, students have tried out some metaphors, similes and descriptive language to give us a glimpse “through the keyhole” into a moment in time from their Winter holidays.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES: Emergency Procedures The purpose of Emergency Drills is to ensure that all students and staff at Sunnybrae Normal School are safe and that everyone is aware of emergency procedures so they can respond appropriately in the event of an emergency. All students will be informed and prepared for each drill in advance. Classroom teachers will debrief their students after each drill.
In Term 3, we will have the following practice Emergency Drill: Week 4 – Fire Drill

International Scout Scarf Day On Thursday, August 1st, Scouts all over New Zealand participated in Scout Scarf Day. Scarf Day is an annual event where Scouts get to show their Scout pride and increase the public’s awareness of Scouting. We were thrilled to have Kam (Room 12), Timothy (Room 15), Mrs Hasell (Room 3), Henry (Room 13), Bronwyn (Room 17) and Sophie (Room 16) all wear their scarves to school and tell us about their groups.

SPORTS UPDATE: Cross Country Training Training will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Please ensure your child is prepared on these days. They will need to have suitable shoes to run on the footpaths as well as their SNS PE shirt (if they have one) to change into before running. All students MUST wear shoes. Any necessary medication e.g. asthma inhalers will also need to be at school. Students will be responsible for carrying these during their run.
The students will start with one lap initially, building up to two laps for those who are interested in trying to make the school team and advance to the Interschool Cross Country on Thursday 12 September. We will be taking a team of 6 boys and 6 girls from Years 4, 5 & 6 to this event.
The Sunnybrae Year 3-6 Cross Country Race is Thursday 29 August starting at 1:30 pm. All parents and caregivers are welcome to come and watch.
