Excellence: Playgrounds and Fields – Consider the needs of others and demonstrate sportsmanship.

PTA Math-a-thon Fundraiser
We are so grateful for those who have made a donation to our PTA Math-a-thon Fundraiser and to our children who are working hard to learn their math basic facts. We are working hard to try and get our new playgrounds. Playgrounds are not funded by the Ministry of Education so every little bit we raise will go towards fun play spaces for our children and community.

Get on board, sign up and get the kids practising. This Monday there will be more spot prizes handed out. Every child who has a donation will go in the draw.

Head to sunnybraeptamathsathon.raiseit.co.nz and make an account. Share your account with friends and family to watch your leaderboard grow.

Math-a-thon sponsorship contributions can also be made on your myKindo account.

Holidays During Term Time
If you are planning to take a holiday during term time that exceeds five days, it is essential to seek permission from the Principal in advance. To do so, please email absences@sunnybrae.school.nz with your intended travel dates and destination. We also recommend aligning your holidays with the school breaks, either before or after the official term holidays, to minimise unnecessary absences and ensure minimal disruption to your child’s learning.

Wig Wednesday
We are thrilled to inform you that, thanks to your incredible support, we raised over $660 for Wig Wednesday! This fantastic contribution will go a long way in helping the Child Cancer Foundation continue their vital work. We are so grateful for your generosity and our students participation in this meaningful cause. Thank you for making this year’s Wig Wednesday such a success!

School Photos
Photolife class and individual school photos are being taken on Wednesday 18 September.

Please remember to send your child to school wearing the correct school uniform. It must be either the black collared long-sleeve polo shirt or the yellow short-sleeved polo shirt with a collar. No polar fleece jackets or sweatshirts can be worn for the photos.

Sibling photo request forms were sent home last week and if you want a group photo of all your children, the form must be returned to the office by Monday 16 September.

Ordering of photos will be online. See www.photolife.co.nz for more details.

The Importance of Arriving on Time
Primary school is the grounding years of a student’s academic learning, setting them up for good study habits when they reach intermediate and secondary school age. It is important that they don’t miss out on the learning and social aspect of these important primary school years.

As part of our data analysis on attendance we are identifying students that are regularly arriving late to school. This may be due to traffic, family issues, or other reasons not provided to the school.  All students are expected to arrive at school between 8.30-8.45am so that they can prepare for the school day and connect with their friends. School starts at 8.55am and if your child arrives at school after 8.55am they need to sign in at the school office.

As a parent or caregiver, you may think that a few minutes late here and there won’t affect your child, however, over the course of a term, this time adds up to them missing a significant amount of school.

Arriving after 9.10am means your child has missed the usual morning routines which includes being read the Daily Notices where children are kept up to date with what is happening at school. This is when they are asked to join sports teams or to get involved in extracurricular activities within the school. Their late arrival can also have a disruptive effect on the rest of the classroom.

If there is a reason that your child is regularly late and you need assistance in getting your child to school, please get in touch with your classroom teacher, as they are only too happy to help. We also welcome you to reach out to a member of our Senior Leadership Team for support.

SPORTS UPDATE:
Inter School Cross Country
There was an air of excitement yesterday as we gathered at the Harvey Wright Fields for the annual Interschool Cross Country against Willow Park School and Northcote Primary School. An enthusiastic team of 42 Sunnybrae students competed in six different races, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and embodying our RICE values as they persevered through a challenging track.

A big congratulations to all competitors, and special recognition goes to the following team members:
Tyler, Room 12 – 1st place Year 4 Boys, Corban Lumsden, Room 14 – 2nd place Year 4 Boys, Year 4 Boys team – 1st place team event,  Ammon, Room 16 – 1st place Year 5 Boys

Amazing work, team! Sunnybrae stood out wearing their flash new sports uniforms, making us proud both on and off the field. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who provided transport and supervision throughout the morning. Your support is invaluable in making events like this possible.

ENROLEMENT:
Out of Zone Ballot for 2025

We are excited to announce there will be a ballot for 2025 out-of-zone enrolments at Sunnybrae Normal School. The deadline for applications for places in Years 1-6 is 15 October 2024. Please email officemanager@sunnybrae.school.nz to register.

Enrolment into Intermediate School
If you are the parent of a Year 6 student, please ensure you have enrolled your child at a school for next year. Even if you live in zone, you still need to go through the enrolment application process. If you have not yet done so, please make the time to do this – it helps schools with their planning.

PTA UPDATE:
School Disco Success
Congratulations to our PTA on organising a hugely successful school disco! We are thrilled with the amount we raised, which will go towards the development of our new school playground. It was wonderful to see everyone having a fantastic time and enjoying the evening. Events like these not only provide fun but also help strengthen our community and create lasting memories for everyone involved.

A special thank you goes out to our parent helpers who assisted with decorations, setting up the venue, selling refreshments and toys, and those who stayed behind to help clean up. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated, and we couldn’t have done it without you!
