Young Puriri in Schools Project Horohia e Matariki ki te whenua. May the soft light of Matariki spread across the land and bring blessings to us all.
On Monday 23 September 2024, in association with the Kaipatiki Community Facilities Trust and the Kaipatiki Local Board, nine seedling puriri were planted in the grounds of Sunnybrae Normal School as the Matariki 2024 Young Puriri in Schools art and eco science project drew to a close. Drawing on the need for communities to feel a connection with place, the planting of seedling puriri reflected not only on the importance of remembering or knowing what has gone before but also offered the next generation an opportunity to shape their own future and put down roots.

SPORTS UPDATE: Netball Success for Sunnybrae The winter netball season is now over and it was great to see players from Year 3-6 enjoying the season. A huge congratulations goes to the Year 4 netball team who placed first in the Year 4 grade in the Westlake competition. They were awarded with a trophy at prize giving last Monday night and they are so proud of their achievement, they played hard all season, had fun as a team and showed great sportsmanship. We would also like to give a huge congratulations to the Year 6 netball team who placed runners up in their grade in the Westlake competition. There was some amazing on court development for all players on the team, they had such a great time together and showed awesome sportsmanship throughout the season. Well done to all the players for the 2024 season and we hope to see you back on the court in 2025.

Teacher Only Day Tuesday 29 October – A Professional Learning Day (PLD), often referred to as a Teacher Only Day, is a designated day for teachers to engage in professional development activities without the presence of students. These days provide teachers with opportunities to enhance their skills, collaborate with colleagues, and stay updated on new educational strategies, curriculum changes, and teaching tools. PLD is essential for improving teaching practices, reflecting on classroom experiences, and planning for future lessons. By dedicating time to professional growth, teachers are better equipped to support student learning and adapt to the evolving demands of education.
YMCA Out of School Care are taking expressions of interest to run a supervised session on this day. Please use the link below to register your child for the Teacher Only Day.

Hats On At School During Term 4 and Term 1, all students are required to wear a black Sunnybrae bucket hat to protect them from the sun. These can be purchased from NZ Uniforms. Please make sure to clearly name your child’s hat. NZ Uniforms offer a naming service, for a small additional fee, on any school clothing items purchased from their store. Any unnamed hats, that are handed into the office, will be redistributed to the Donated Uniform shop.
Donated School Uniforms We are collecting used school uniforms in good condition to support families in need. If you have any uniforms your child has outgrown, please consider donating them to the school. Your contribution will make a big difference and help other students feel confident and ready for class.
