Kia ora te whānau,
Re: Auckland at Alert Level 3
As you and your whānau will no doubt have watched and read, due to a community transmission of Covid-19 in South Auckland, the super city has gone into another Lockdown until Friday night.
Firstly, please know that we as a board of trustees are thinking of you all, during what is no doubt a time of uncertainty and stress. However, although this was not wished for, the school and its staff have been preparing contingencies ahead of another potential outbreak.
Just so you understand, Sunnybrae Normal School will be closed during the Auckland Level 3 Lockdown until Friday at 11.59 pm. However, if you are an essential worker, then your child can be accommodated at school from tomorrow, Thursday. Please note that this is for Essential Workers Only (nurses, doctors, police, paramedics, age care…).
At this time, we are, along with all other schools in Auckland, awaiting further updates and advice from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health. As and when these come to us, we will do our utmost to relay any information that is relevant to you and your child in relation to school as quickly as is practicable.
As a school, we will endeavour to communicate any and all relevant updates with you and our community via email, our school app, and/or Seesaw. Can we as a school ask that if you do not currently have these apps, please follow the instructions sent home today. If your email address has changed, please contact the school as soon as you can.
Finally, we would like to reiterate our concern for you, our community and especially our precious mokopuna, for whom all this will no doubt be somewhat confusing. This is probably a good time to remind ourselves to:
- Stay Safe
- Be Patient
- Be Kind
- Stay Positive
After all, “he waka eke noa” – we are all in this together.
Nga mihi mahana,
Dr. Nick Brown & Dora Yang
(on behalf of the Sunnybrae Normal School Board of Trustees)
