|
2. COVID-19 – Alert Level 1
|
At Sunnybrae, we will continue to follow all appropriate health measures including maintaining recommended cleaning practices and encouraging good hygiene standards. We will also continue to remind people to stay home if they are unwell and to seek medical advice. The Ministry of Education encourages school communities to continue to use the COVID-19 QR Code when coming onto the school grounds.
Drop off at the Gate: 8:30 – 8:45 am
Pick up: 3:00 pm Parents/Caregivers Welcome onsite
Thank you for your continued support to help us keep everyone safe.
|
|
Just a kind reminder that the wearing of Sunnybrae sunhats when outside is compulsory in Terms 4.
Please ensure your child brings his/her named hat each day. If the hat is named clearly, it makes it very easy to return to the rightful owner.
|
4. Auckland Water Restrictions
|
Watercare Services have given the go-ahead for schools to use outdoor hoses for any purpose as long as it is handheld with a trigger nozzle attached, or it is for a health, safety, emergency or biosecurity reason.
Schools can also water sports fields, plants or paddocks with an irrigation system.
Our Property Manager, Mr Pretorius, is very happy that he will be able to maintain the school property and landscape with pride.

6. Compost Collective Visit Year 2 and 3 Syndicate
|
Last Friday Pip Beagley visited to present her ideas on composting and sustainability.
We learnt about different solutions for our food waste, such as a worm farm.
It was great fun to watch someone get dressed up as a compostable worm and learn interesting facts about them. Then we looked at real worms close up and had a new respect for the amazing job worms do turning our food scraps back into nutrient-rich soil.
You can register on the link below to get a $40 discount on a home compost system. Please use this link: https://compostcollective.org.nz/events/worm-farm-talk-sunnybrae-1/

7. Sunnybrae School Bush Working Bee
|
Thank you to the families who came along and helped at our Working Bee on Sunday. It was wonderful to have such great support for this project.
Everyone working together created a lovely atmosphere and a ‘hive’ of activity enabling most of the bush clearing to be completed. The children showed their design flare creating insect hotels, bird feeders and houses using hard materials.
Our next Working Bee is on Saturday 31 October 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. All children must bring accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Feel free to bring along a small plate of food for morning tea to share with others.
We would love help with:
- Digging out and repotting some of our native seedlings
- Pulling out some unwanted plants and weeding around the fence posts
- Raking mulch and leaves around the trees
- Pruning and small amounts of cutting
- Finishing off the bird feeders and insect hotels with the children
- Installing the insect hotels and bird feeders in the bush
- And much more…
You can bring:
- Bamboo branches/pine cones
- Potting mix
- Ready set concrete
- Sharp spade
- Tools (such as a hand saw/nail gun/screwdriver/hammer)
- Long screws
- Gardening gloves
If you have any questions or ideas for this project, I would love to hear from you!

9.2 Banana Boat OceanKids Series
|
This series is coming to Takapuna Beach on Saturday 12 December. It is a great chance for swimmers at Sunnybrae aged between 7-10 years to have a go at a 100m or 200m ocean swim close to shore, in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. Every child who participates will receive a finishers medal, photo, other goodies and a great day at the beach. Come and have a go at his amazing event. Information and online entry can be found here at www.oceankids.co.nz.

11. Melanoma Awareness Day

Great Sunnybrae School spirit was demonstrated today. We had a sea of colourful spots all over the school. Together, we raised $363.40. Thank you so much to our community again for your kind donations to this important cause.

This week our PB4L focus has been on showing independence in the library.
Our lessons have focused on:
- Putting books back in the right place;
- Bringing books back to school before library sessions.
|
|
|
At school this week we continued to focus on kindness. One of the best things we can do for our wellbeing is to be kind or give to others (our time, actions and words). As well as strengthening our connections with others, research shows that kindness and giving makes us happier. And it’s contagious!
The students watched the story ‘Words and Your Heart’ – go to this link to enjoy watching it too!
|
They talked about:
- how it feels when someone is kind to us
- how it feels when we are kind
They then brainstormed kind words and made kindness compliment hearts for other students in the class.

14. Calendar Orders and School Photos
|
Calendar order forms were sent home with your child this week. You can purchase calendars, cards, diaries, mouse mats and sketch pads. To view your child’s picture and order products go to www.kidsartworks.com and enter the Entrance Code Field Type that was sent home this week. These make gorgeous Christmas presents and is a great fundraiser for our school. Orders close on Monday 9th November at 9:00 am.
Class and Individual Photos: Photolife is currently making necessary changes to the class photos taken at the end of last term. We will notify you as soon as they are ready for purchase.
