2. Sunnybrae Normal School Resources

Our reading rooms and library are now closed for the year. Please look under your child’s bed, on bookshelves and in your child’s bedroom for any resources that belong to Sunnybrae e.g. journals, library books, other readers and sports uniforms. We would appreciate receiving them back as soon as possible, please. We suggest you visit your local community library for extra reading material for your children.

3. School Swimming Pool Key Hire for Sunnybrae Families

Summer is here and the school pool is full!
If you would like to use the pool after hours and over the summer period (7 December 2020 to 7 April 2021), you can purchase a School Pool Key from the office as follows:
By Friday 11 December, pay at the school office by EFTPOS or online banking into the school account:
ASB Bank: 12-3053-0370789-00
Particulars: Pool key
Code: Eldest student’s name
Reference: Room No.
Cost: $95.00 + $50.00 bond = $145.00
When you have paid please email office@sunnybrae.school.nz with “School Pool Key” in the subject line so the office staff can prepare the key and Pool Key Contract for you to sign. Keys will be issued to Sunnybrae parents only. Children are not permitted to pick up keys on behalf of the parent.
The $50.00 bond will be refunded when the key is returned in April 2021.

5. Special Achievements in our GATE Programme
|
Congratulations to Jayden Chae
The Otago Problem Solving Challenge is an Intermediate-age maths competition which Primary schools may enter. The Year 6 GATE Maths group all took part in five problem-solving challenges over three terms. Each challenge has 5 questions. Jayden Chae of Room 20 scored 21 out of a possible 25 questions earning himself a book voucher. Jayden’s results are very impressive and we are incredibly proud of him.
Congratulations to Aron Niu
Aron Niu from Room 19 recently received a special award for attaining the highest score in the 2020 Year 6 Science competition administered by the University of Canterbury. Well done, Aron.

This week our PB4L focus has continued to be on showing respect, co-operation and excellence during assemblies.
Our lessons have focused on:
- Respecting the speaker
- Actively listening and participating
- Performing with enthusiasm
- Showing respect when receiving an award

This week at school we focused on relaxing, thinking positively and flowing with mindfulness exercises. We used Go Noodle to explore some flow exercises. You might like to try some of these exercises at home with your children by going to this link.

11. Ez-lunch – Last Day for Orders for Term 4

Please note that Friday 11 December is the last day that you can order lunches through EziLunch.

The Year 1 teachers are looking for additional resources to support their programmes. If you have any of the following items that you would like to donate to our school, please deliver them to any of the Year 1 classrooms. Thank you in advance for your support.

12. Donations of Second Hand Uniform
|
If your child is leaving Sunnybrae this year and you have good quality and clean second hand uniform you no longer need, we would truly appreciate you donating it to the school so that we can offer it to new or current families that would also appreciate that support. Please drop it at the office.

2021 International Food Festival – Friday 12 March 2021
|
Our Annual International Food Festival will be held on Friday 12 March 2021 between 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. If you are interested in coordinating a food stall that represents your culture, please email our Deputy Principal, Karen Rodger at krodger@sunnybrae.school.nz. Further information and requests for support will be sent out in the coming weeks.

15. COVID-19 – Alert Level 1
|
At Sunnybrae, we will continue to follow all appropriate health measures including maintaining recommended cleaning practices and encouraging good hygiene standards. We will also continue to remind people to stay home if they are unwell and to seek medical advice. The Ministry of Education encourages school communities to continue to use the COVID-19 QR Code when coming onto the school grounds.
