Welcome to Sunnybrae
This week we would like to welcome the following new student and his family to our school community:  Ethan Wang in Room 13

The PB4L focus for Week 9 will be on using excellence on the playgrounds and fields. Our lessons will focus on: Considering the needs of others + Demonstrating sportsmanship

On June 17, we held a special parent evening entitled, ‘We Are Sunnybrae.’ This was an opportunity to share important aspects of our local curriculum including Wellbeing, Learner Qualities, Community Engagement and Positive Behaviour for Learning. There are many benefits of sharing similar messages about learning and life in both the home and school setting. Using the same language can make this even more effective. Through Seesaw we are sending home the Positive Behaviour for Learning Expectations poster shown below to support our home/school partnership. You might like to print this out and have it on the fridge or a display board, and refer to it during discussions with your family/whānau. There are also a limited number of coloured A4 posters printed at the office for those who might like to have a copy. This is one several resources that we are sharing with you over the coming weeks.

Community Engagement
Focus Groups
We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the many different cultural groups that make Sunnybrae the diverse and unique school that it is. Thank you to those of you who have given up your valuable time to come along and share aspects of your culture. The next cultural group we are meeting with is the New Zealand/European Pakeha group on Wednesday 21 September at 7-8pm in the school staffroom. We would love for you to come and share your ideas with us.

This week our wellbeing tip focuses on how a healthy outside starts from the inside.
As a family, you might like to do the following activities.

Get your child to do some fractions when they are having dinner. Maybe they could help make it. Ask your child if half of the plate has colourful vegetables on it, if a quarter of the plate is protein and if a quarter of the plate is carbohydrate. Get them to name the vegetables and discuss where they come from, above the ground or under the ground. Ask where the protein and carbohydrates come from. Get them to describe the way the plate looks and the tastes and texture.

For dessert make a fruit salad face together using your child’s favourite fruit.

Māori Language Week 
This week we celebrated Māori Language Week by focusing on the wellbeing of our students, staff and community. Each day we looked at a different element of our wellbeing through the Māori Health Model ‘Te Whare Tapawhā’ in our classrooms as well as for a Home Learning Challenge. We loved seeing a lot of Māori and Wellbeing activities around the school, including in the library, Kapa Haka and in our music and dance classes with Mr Vella. We hope you enjoyed participating in our Wellbeing challenges at home.

Teacher Only Day

There will be a Teacher Only Day on Tuesday 25 October 2022. The YMCA is offering child care for the day if you are interested.

Table Tennis Champions

We have had 3 table tennis teams playing in the competitions at the YMCA on Wednesday evenings this term. The Sunnybrae Serpents – Albert, Vonal and Yun Yi played in the final for their grade, beating Milford to win their grade. Well done team.

Community Engagement Focus Group:

MATHS @ HOME:

We currently have a lot of un-named school polo fleece jumpers in the Lost Property Office. Anything not claimed by the end of term will moved into the Donated School Uniform section. See the office staff for a key to access the Lost Property room, located by the driveway in the junior area, if you are missing items of clothing.

LOST PURSE: A childs purse was handed in after the disco with money and a gift card. If you can describe the purse and the name of the gift card we will return to the correct owner. Please see the office staff.
