EMERGENCY PROCEDURES: Fire Drill As part of our ongoing monitoring of our Emergency Procedures, we had a Fire Drill in the afternoon of Wednesday 29 March. The fire bell was rung, children lined up outside in their respective areas where a roll count was taken. The Senior Leadership Team walked around the school checking the external doors were locked and that students and staff where outside the buildings. These drills also test our indoor and outdoor speakers ensuring emergency announcements can be heard. This drill took 5 minutes, 17 seconds to complete. Following the drill and the ‘all clear’ announcement was made, teachers completed a debrief document with their class.

SPORTS UPDATE: Year 3-6 TRYathlon Last Thursday we were finally able to hold our annual school Tryathlon after a break of three years due to circumstances beyond our control. Thanks COVID. The aim of our Tryathlon was to have all students involved in some capacity. Some students enter in the Championship race and complete all three disciplines on their own, others are part of a team where each person completed at least one leg of the race. With the centre of our school field full of bikes and the track marked out, excitement levels were high with students eager to get involved. Students displayed enthusiasm, perseverance and great sportsmanship and should be very proud of themselves. There were a lot of exhausted but happy faces at the end of the afternoon. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the fantastic team of teachers and our school community for getting in behind this event which will once again become an annual event. Rachel Olliver, Sports Co-ordinator

Fundraising Mufti-Day Thanks to everyone who took part in the Fundraising Mufti-Day last Friday. We raised a whopping $678 that will be donated to schools affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. The Year 6 Philosophers group did a fantastic job of making posters to advertise this event and enjoyed counting the money to get the final result. Well done everyone.

SAFETY AROUND SCHOOL: Children Crossing Roads The school was informed of a near-miss traffic incident involving a young Sunnybrae student nearly being hit by a car as they ran, unaccompanied, across Hillcrest Ave on Monday morning. This is a timely reminder to all parents and caregivers to ensure that your child has been given clear instructions on how to safely cross busy roads. Hillcrest Ave is a narrow, busy road and with cars parked on either side of the road, visibility of small children is reduced. We recommend parents and caregivers walk with their children and cross them to the school’s side of the road at all of our entrances. This is also a note for all parents who drive to school to be very aware of other students and drive accordingly.
