Spotlight on Year 3 & 4
Sunnybee and our RICE values.
Throughout this term we have enjoyed having Sunnybee visit our classrooms to remind us of how we should be behaving, what it means to be a good friend, how we need to be kind and respectful to all and for us to always to try our hardest. Sunnybee was so proud of us at our team assembly last week. He enjoyed helping Ms Scott read out the certificates and shake the students’ hands.

Spotlight on Year 5 & 6
The Year 5/6 Team have had a busy and active term.
Along with the swimming sessions, swimming sports and the tryathlon, we enjoyed the creative construction time during the Junky Monkey’s session. During our writing, we reviewed and completed recounts and created poems about our experiences. As part of our spelling programme, we have been developing our spelling skills and knowledge of digraphs and their associated sounds. Maths has involved a revision of our basic facts as well as creating a questionnaire and surveying and sharing our results as part of our statistics unit. When reviewing the roles and responsibilities of various members of family, school and wider community students gained a greater understanding of their associated contributions to their household and beyond. Recently students have been enjoying learning about the artist Romero Britto and his vibrant style of art as they complete their self-portraits.
It is hoped that during the upcoming holidays, students work through their Pre-Camp Spruce Up tasks as part of their preparation for our Term 2 school camp (June 12-14)!

Shore to Shore Fun Run
Well done to everyone who ran the Shore to Shore Fun Run last Sunday.
Sunnybrae had 62 entries supporting our school. For every entry, a percentage will be donated to Sunnybrae as new sports equipment which all the students will benefit from playing with. A huge thank you to Lucy and Dean Farquhar who were our school ambassadors for the event. Lucy organised the race mascot to visit the school during assembly, which was very exciting for the students, and Dean set up the end of race meeting point so everyone could enjoy a refreshing morning tea after their big run. It’s great to see Sunnybrae families bringing our community together.

Student Recount:
On Sunday 7th April, it was the Harcourts Cooper & Co fun run.
My sister Georgie and I woke up early with excitement for the day and got our costumes on. It was so cool seeing everyone dressed up, rocking and ready to go! I ran with my Dad, Dean and friend, Noah P. My favourite part was when I could hear the supporters cheering us on as we ran and winning a spot prize – a bag of sports gear! We think there were over 60 entries from Sunnybrae. Next year let’s break 100 – TEACHERS TOO!!
Thank you to everyone that took part. I hope you had a great day! By Elliot, Room 18.

Student Recount:
On Sunday 7 April, the flippa ball finals were on. I arrived early so I went to get changed. I came back and the others in the team had started arriving so I sat down next to Eli. Then I realised how tired and sore I was after the Shore to Shore Fun Run. Deano gave us all our positions and we scurried along to the pool edge. I was in defence with Eli and Noelle, Noah, Helene and YiYi were attacking and Bronwyn was goalie. Everyone was so bouncy and excited for the game. SPLASH! I jumped in and swam to the pool edge, ready for the whistle to blow. PREEP! In a flurry of a movement, the ball was passed back as the strikers swam up, so I passed it up to Noah and he had a shot. “YES!” I thought to myself as we retreated back to our spots. Another goal! Another goal! I was so happy! Things were looking good. BAM! Bronwyn blocked another goal, and again! But, as quickly as we had started scoring, we stopped. The opposing team managed to get the ball and they scored. But that wasn’t going to stop us! The whistle blew for half time so we swapped sides and had a team huddle. I was moved into attack. We continued and Eli scored. So did the other team. But the final whistle blew. A HUGE cheer came from the crowd. We had won the final! Undefeated for the whole term! What a flippin amazing flippa ball game! By Conor, Room 20
