Principal’s Update We are pleased to inform you that Lorene’s hip surgery was a success, and she is now in recovery. The medical team is confident in her progress, and she is taking the necessary time to heal and regain her strength. We know many of you have expressed concern and well wishes, and we will be sure to pass those along. While she recovers, the school will continue to run smoothly under the guidance of our Senior Leadership Team until the end of Term 3. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time.

SPOTLIGHT ON YEAR 3 & 4: Our Math Skills Math games are a great way to learn the skills needed for fast recall of math knowledge. Room 15 have been enjoying some warm-up math games. We are playing Pepperoni Pizza and Multiplication Squares to practise knowledge of multiplication facts, and Fish for Ten and Circle Bonds to practise instant recall of the number bonds that add to ten.
Room 14 enjoyed creating a multiplication array city, as a visual way of understanding multiplication and equal groups.
Room 13 have been writing multiplication stories inspired by the book Each Orange Had 8 Slices. We used the book as a warm-up to our math lessons for a couple of weeks. Now we have our own stories that the class can solve by reading through each student’s multiplication story and using their multiplication knowledge to answer the questions.
Room 12 has been learning about place value and playing math games to practise our basic facts. Cards are a really simple resource for lots of different games.

On the subject of math, we wanted to give you a quick update on our school’s Math-a-thon fundraiser, and wow—what an incredible response we’ve had so far! The students have been working so hard on their math challenges, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. Thanks to their determination (and your generous support!), we’ve already raised over $1200. This is an impressive amount.
There’s still time to donate if you haven’t had a chance yet, so let’s keep that momentum going! Every contribution makes a difference and helps our school reach its goal. Simply visit https://sunnybraeptamathsathon.raiseit.co.nz/ and make an account. Share your account with friends and family to watch your leaderboard grow. There are a lot of great prizes to be won, also.
Math-a-thon sponsorship contributions can also be made on your myKindo account. www.myKindo.co.nz
Thank you all for being such an amazing community!

Attendance at Sunnybrae As a school, we monitor the attendance of all students in week 5 and 10 of every term. This includes monitoring students who consistently arrive late to school. At the beginning of this term we took part in a study with the North Auckland Integrated School Support Service as they collated data on why students across a number of schools were late to school.
We thank the families who also took part in an individual survey with the team at North Auckland Integrated School Support Service.
The Ministry of Education has an expectation that all students’ attendance at school will be 90% or above and this is considered to be regular attendance. For the first 5 weeks of this term 286 students (77%) were meeting this expectation.
Please remember we are here to support you to ensure that your child/children attend school regularly and arrive at school on time. As a school community it is important that we work together to ensure that all students arrive on time for school and attend regularly as we know every day counts.
