Sunnybrae Normal School opened on 2 February 1966 with a roll of 242 pupils, led by foundation principal Mr Arch Jelley. As a Normal School it was purpose-built to support the pre-service training of teachers from the North Shore Teachers College. The College, (on the site now occupied by the AUT University) was amalgamated with the Auckland College of Education in 1981. A close and effective partnership continues to exist with the Faculty of Education at the University of Auckland. |
